Native Bee Health in Urban Environments

Research | Urban Ecology

Urbanization is a major force of environmental change worldwide. Therefore, understanding the impact of urbanization on ecosystem services such as pollination is crucial for maintaining ecosystem functioning and food supply. We are investigating how urbanization affects community composition, immune response and pathogen prevalence of native bee fauna. Furthermore, we are studying the effect of behavioral social immunity in the physiological immune response of different insect lineages.
